Reason for Joining LTA: Born in Bolivia, I arrived to the United States when I was six years old. Since then I was educated in Arlington, Virginia, along with my brother and three younger sisters. It was here where I connected with my community seeking to increase Latino involvement in high school. I entered the University of Virginia in 2001 at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, where I became heavily involved with Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. I continued my involvement through Alianza, the Latino Umbrella organization and the Office of Student Life. I became a sister of Lambda Theta Alpha, Latin Sorority Incorporated in the Spring of 2005, sharing a greater vision of the power of minority women. It was here that I found firsthand the programming, organization and passion of our sisters.

Reason for joining LTA: Having been adopted from my home country when I was a baby, I was not exposed to Latin American culture in my childhood. When I got to UVa and discovered Lambda Theta Alpha, I was excited about an organization that allowed me to connect with other young Latinas who were contributing positively to the community. Even with its origins as a Latin sorority, I enjoyed the fact that the sisters did not consider me any less of a Latina for how I had been raised and embraced my unique background.
