Reason for joining LTA: During my first year at UVA, I researched the greek-letter organizations that were on grounds but felt that each was strictly defined by ethnicity and/or did not have the level of community outreach I was seeking. I wanted to join a sorority that had a rich history and also was revered for its commitment to the empowerment of all women. I also wanted to belong to an organization where the women considered each other true sisters not only during their undergraduate years, but after graduation as well. I decided to establish a chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha at UVA because LTA upheld all of these ideals and surpassed every expectation imaginable. LTA's history, cultural and community involvement, nationwide size, professional network, and the genuineness of its sisters is second to none.

Ethnicity: Chinese
Undergraduate Concentration: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, May 2003
Graduate school: Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, May 2008
Current profession: Nurse Practitioner
Reason for joining LTA: I fell in love with the concept of celebrating the universal woman and felt that UVa was really lacking that while I was a undergrad. The dedication to scholarship, community service, and women empowerment were all essential aspects of an organization that I was looking for as well.

Favorite Quote: "Well behaved women rarely make history."
Reason for joining LTA: As an undergrad at UVA, I felt like I needed to find an outlet where I could give back to the community while at the same time exploring who I was as a leader and a woman of color. LTA has given me and my sisters endless opportunities to learn invaluable skills in organization, time management, and event planning. The organization has been a vehicle for us to give back to the community in the form of service and programs and to empower ourselves in the process. But most importantly, LTA has given me a lifetime of sisterhood that I treasure more and more every day. Eleven years later, I am close to so many amazing sisters (from many different chapters) who I consider some of my best friends. LTA is a lifetime commitment and although it takes hard work to make the organization run smoothly, Lambda Theta Alpha continues to provide me with endless memories, beautiful friendships and true sisterhood. And for that, I am eternally grateful.
